Learn about our community guidelines that help maintain a respectful and engaging environment for all Berklee community members.

Berklee Social Media Community Guidelines

Welcome to the official Berklee social media channels, curated and managed by Berklee Communications and Marketing. Our goal is to provide access to people, places, events, and news at our institution. To maintain a respectful and engaging digital environment that supports our Unified Mission and Vision and aligns with our Fundamental Values, we request that all visitors adhere to the following guidelines:

1. Respect

Treat fellow community members and channel managers with civility and courtesy. Personal attacks, threats, harassment, profanity, spam, bullying, or other inappropriate contributions are grounds for removal. In addition, posts that violate the social media platform's policies, disclose information that is confidential under law, or incite imminent lawless action will be removed.

2. Relevance

Please stay on topic when contributing to discussions and avoid duplicate posts. Duplicative comments by the same user may be removed.

3. Inclusivity

Hateful or discriminatory comments will be removed.

4. Collaboration

Foster a spirit of collaboration and constructive dialogue.

5. Authenticity

Be genuine in your interactions and contributions.

6. Privacy

Respect the privacy and confidentiality of others. Additionally, do not post content that violates copyright or intellectual property rights.

Note: Page administrators have the discretion to remove inappropriate or abusive comments, to ban or block users who violate these guidelines, and to review and report comments from community members who violate the Berklee Code of Community Conduct for students or Berklee's Standards of Conduct for faculty and staff.

Community Guidelines for Berklee Alumni Social Media Channels and Groups

Mission Statement and Behavioral Guidelines

Berklee alumni events and activities are facilitated to nurture the connectivity of our lifelong, global community of alumni. These efforts are meant to support the Berklee community in their personal and professional pursuits; to create a reliable avenue for continued learning, support, and relationship building; and to provide an additional source of news and opportunities for engagement with Berklee and the Berklee community.

In order to meet the goals of this community, it is important for members to feel like they are in a safe place that is populated by people with shared interests. With this in mind, we request that the following guidelines be respected.

General Social Media Guidelines

  • Respect the boundaries of community members.
  • Be tolerant towards others' viewpoints; respectfully disagree when opinions do not align.
  • Respect the privacy and personal information of other alumni.
  • Do not make personal attacks on, bully, or make inflammatory remarks to other community members, or post prejudiced comments.
  • Posts and comments should be in the support of alumni success and related to conversations within the community.
  • Communicate responsibly. These activities are intended to keep alumni in touch with one another, to help facilitate networking, to celebrate common interests, and to encourage conversation. Be respectful of your peers.

Consequences

Alumni Affairs staff are tasked with maintaining a productive and community-minded environment within which Berklee alumni can engage. Any behavior that is brought to the attention of this office that may undermine the welcoming and supportive nature of the community will be directly addressed. Repeated instances of inappropriate behavior may result in revoking access to alumni activities and resources.

Agreement

By engaging in Berklee alumni activities and programming, you are considered to be in agreement with community guidelines and accept them as mutual values of the members of this community.

Social Media Group Guidelines

Berklee alumni Facebook groups are established by alumni to assist members of the Berklee community in their personal and professional pursuits, and to create a reliable avenue to present opportunities, request support, maintain and develop friendships, and provide an additional source of news and opportunities for engagement with Berklee and the Berklee community.

Group Setup

  • Groups will be private to protect the resources exclusively available to Berklee alumni.
  • Only Berklee alumni will be granted access to these groups. Exceptions may be made for valued community members who have demonstrated an intention to offer opportunities and information to benefit the Berklee alumni community.
  • Students will be granted access only within one semester of their planned departure from the institution.
  • Pending-member questions are set up to help identify new members and include the following:
  • What was your last year of attendance at Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Berklee Valencia, or Berklee Online?
  • What was your major?
  • Only group administrators and moderators will have the ability to approve new members.
  • It is the responsibility of group administrators and moderators to uphold and enforce the community guidelines.

Guidelines

  • You must have taken classes at one of the Berklee campuses or online, meeting the criteria to qualify as a member of the alumni community.
  • Treat others online as you would treat them in real life.
  • Be tolerant towards others' viewpoints; respectfully disagree when opinions do not align.
  • Respect the privacy and personal information of other alumni.
  • Do not make personal attacks on, bully, or make inflammatory remarks to other community members, or post prejudiced comments.
  • Posts and comments should be in the support of alumni success and related to conversations within the group.
  • Use messaging and email responsibly. These tools are intended to keep alumni in touch with one another, to help facilitate networking, and to promote common interests. Some examples might include inviting local area alumni to an event or to join an activity, or reaching out to individual alumni for advice, to reconnect, or to join a group. (Note that you should always let Alumni Affairs know if you are planning an event. We'd love to talk about how we can support it.)

Consequences

The administrators of this group will take action when we see someone violating these guidelines. Sometimes that may mean bringing something to a member's attention; other times it may mean revoking certain privileges or accounts entirely.

Agreement

By joining this group, you are considered to be in agreement with the community guidelines and accept them as mutual values of the members of this group.
